The Transport Research Institute (TRI) at Edinburgh Napier University was established in 1996. Since its inauguration, it has developed an enviable track record in delivering high quality transport research, consultancy and other knowledge transfer projects within an applied setting.  TRI’s capability is inherently multidisciplinary in nature. Key TRI members possess national, and sometimes world-leading, reputations in a number of fields that cross virtually all areas of academic expertise including engineering, modelling, computing, economics, psychology, sociology and geography. Our experience in applying these disciplinary skills to the transport arena has been gained in a diverse variety of contexts, with projects covering applications in all modal and intermodal situations within Scotland, the wider UK and elsewhere.
Particular current strengths exist in: network modelling and optimisation; road safety and driver behaviour; traffic engineering; transport policy; maritime economics and international logistics; rural and demand-responsive transport; mobility management and personal travel planning; mode choice modelling; transport economics, the social aspects of transport, active travel; accessibility and; taxi economics and regulation. TRI members have developed fruitful relationships with both partners and clients including: industry; transport and management consultancy companies; the European Commission and its various agencies; the United Nations; the World Bank; national and local governments in different parts of the world; as well as with partners at other academic institutions across Scotland and beyond. TRI provides a unique resource for the development and delivery of high quality inputs into transport research, consultancy and other knowledge transfer projects.
